Frequently asked questions
General
- An OEM Clutch usually functions according to the ON/OFF principle (no intermediate states between open and closed possible). The SuterClutch has a much smoother and more precise response. In addition, you can adapt the response behavior individually to the driver, which is usually not possible with OEM clutches.
- Just by looking at the construction you can see that the SuterClutch consists of much more and more complex parts, as a standard clutch. Besides, we use only high-quality materials refined to ensure the highest possible stability and longevity (e.g. Teflon-containing special coating to minimize abrasion).
- A slipper clutch is a specialized clutch system designed to allow some degree of slip between the clutch plates during deceleration. This helps prevent rear wheel lockup and maintains stability when downshifting or braking hard.
- Slipper clutches utilize a set of ramps and springs that allow the clutch to slip under certain conditions, such as sudden changes in engine speed. When the engine speed exceeds the wheel speed, the clutch begins to disengage slightly, preventing the rear wheel from locking up.
- Slipper clutches provide several benefits, including improved stability during aggressive braking, smoother downshifts, reduced strain on the transmission, and enhanced control over the motorcycle, especially in racing conditions.
- While slipper clutches enhance control and stability, riders may still need to adapt their technique, particularly in cornering and braking. Practicing with a slipper clutch can help you fully utilize its benefits.
- Regular maintenance includes checking the clutch fluid (if applicable), inspecting the clutch plates for wear, and ensuring that the clutch pack height is within spec. Always refer to the manufacturer’s guidelines for specific maintenance recommendations.
- Yes, a slipper clutch can improve lap times by providing more stability during braking and cornering, allowing riders to push their limits with confidence. This enhanced control can lead to faster and more consistent lap performance.
- A standard clutch engages and disengages power from the engine to the transmission, while a slipper clutch adds the functionality of controlled slip to prevent wheel lockup during aggressive braking and downshifting.
- Yes, Suter BTL slipper clutches come with adjustable settings to customize the amount of slip based on rider preference and track conditions. Check your specific model for adjustment options.
- Yes, slipper clutches are suitable for both track and street riding. They enhance stability and control, making them beneficial for a wide range of riding conditions, including everyday use.
